The owner of the King Street building that houses eyeglasses boutique Warby Parker is exploring the possibility of building home-sharing-type rental apartments above it.
Asana Partners of Charlotte, North Carolina, which owns 805 King St. as well as a slew of other retail properties in the neighborhood, filed an application with the city of Alexandria to build 15 “apartment hotel” units in the building, mostly on the second through fourth floors. One unit would be located on the ground floor at the back of the building.
The space has long been configured for office space, and Asana has been marketing it to office tenants since it bought the building in 2016, but it hasn’t been able to attract them, according to the narrative submitted with the special use permit application.
While Asana isn’t guaranteed to implement the hotel plan, the company was looking for the flexibility to be able to do so, according to a source familiar with the company’s portfolio.
