2 cases detailed in clergy abuse report show Cardinal Wuerl’s uneven handling

Cardinal Donald Wuerl, the Archbishop of Washington, is the former bishop of Pittsburgh. His name is mentioned roughly 200 times in a 884-page Pennsylvania grand jury report that details how he handled the discipline following accusations against some priests. In one case, a priest was eventually removed yet still received financial support — even after a new victim had come forward alleging abuse. In the case of another priest, Wuerl was more aggressive, pushing to get the priest evaluated.
