Nats introduce newest Racing President

WASHINGTON — Meet the newest Racing President — Calvin Coolidge.

Friday night — the eve of the 143th birthday of the nation’s 30th president — cheers will erupt for the man known as Silent Cal, as he joins the fourth-inning dash with George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, and William Howard Taft.

Needless to say,  there will be plenty of Calvin Coolidge merchandise.

The White House Historical Association’s official White House Christmas ornament will feature Coolidge, and be available in team stores.

And, to make it official, the Nats will hold a Calvin Coolidge bobblehead giveaway Sept. 21.

According to the Washington Post, Racing Cal got a short-term deal — his oversized head is expected to be retired at the end of the 2015 season.

The real Calvin Coolidge had some impressive Washington baseball history. He was the last president to throw out a first pitch during a Washington World Series game. He posed for photos with Walter Johnson of the Washington Senators.
