Funeral set for trooper fatally shot at Richmond bus station

WASHINGTON -– Funeral arrangements have been set for Virginia State Police Trooper Chad P. Dermyer, who was shot and killed in the line of duty Thursday.

The funeral will take place 11 a.m. Tuesday at Liberty Baptist Church in Hampton, Virginia. A private graveside burial will follow in Gloucester County, Virginia.

Dermyer was shot and killed after a man open fired at a Greyhound bus station. Dermyer was participating in a counter-terrorism training exercise at the bus station with about a dozen other troopers, special agents and supervisors when he was shot. Two women were also shot but were expected to recover.

The gunman, James Brown III, of Aurora, Illinois, was killed by state troopers. Brown, 34, had more than 140 rounds with him at the time.

Friends and family fondly recalled Dermyer as a devoted family man and consummate professional.

A visitation is scheduled at Liberty Baptist Church Monday.

The Virginia State Police Association is accepting donations on behalf of the Dermyer Family. Checks should be addressed to “VSPA Emergency Relief Fund,” with a note on the memo line citing that the donation is for Dermyer.
