WASHINGTON — The runup to NBC’s “Red Nose Day” special, an adaptation of a British institution, saw celebrities and everyday people across the region and the country donning the clown-like costume piece on May 21.

The fundraiser for children in poverty in the U.S. and worldwide airs on NBC from 8 to 11 p.m.
