‘Daily Show’ successor in some Twitter trouble

WASHINGTON — After Trevor Noah was selected Monday to succeed Jon Stewart as the host of “The Daily Show,” the South African comic tweeted that he was excited to step into Stewart’s shoes, saying that “No-one can replace Jon Stewart. But together with the amazing team at The Daily Show, we will continue to make this the best damn news show!”

Some of his tweets in the past have been — well, a little more problematic. Business Insider reports that some of Noah’s tweeted jokes and observations have the Internet in a bit of an uproar.

BuzzFeed’s Tom Gara found a bunch of Noah’s tweets, mostly from 2011 and 2012, and retweeted them to bring them back to light.

A couple of Noah’s tweets are below. (WTOP can only put a few of them on this site; for others, you can go to the Business Insider site, but be warned: The language gets a bit rough.)

Time focused on some of Noah’s funnier and less-offensive tweets, mostly dating from this year and last:

No word yet on whether there will be any repercussions.
