Quite a change!
Are we hearing a new Cal Thomas from the one we’ve been hearing for the past several years?
What happened to the Cal Thomas who said the mission was to protect OUR country from terrorist attacks? Now he is saying the mission is to “set the country straight” or show a “higher moral authority”?
Yes, there is no excuse for this ONE solider getting drunk or crazy and going on a shooting rampage. NOBODY justifies his actions! The solution to that problem, however, is to prosecute that one soldier. We don’t surrender and pull our troops out because of the misconduct of one soldier.
If Al Qaeda has been wiped out and no longer poses a threat, that’s different. Then it’s time to leave. If Cal Thomas can make THAT argument, I say “bring the troops home”.
Cal, I very rarely agree with your analysis of the issues, but I must say I agree with this one. The only difference is that I think, and stated publicly, that we should have been out of Afghanistan at least 3 years ago. That is an area of the world that is not going to change and has survived many that tried to change them. Just go ask the former Soviets.
