Sierra Club endorses Brown in Md. governor’s race

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — The Maryland chapter of the Sierra Club has endorsed Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown in Maryland’s governor’s race.

The organization on Wednesday cited the Democratic candidate’s commitment to environmental justice and policy plans to ensure that the environment remains a priority in Maryland’s next administration.

Brown says in a statement that if he is elected governor he will be committed to addressing climate change, strengthening air and water quality and cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay.

The environmental group endorsed Del. Heather Mizeur in Maryland’s Democratic primary. It cited Mizeur’s opposition to the proposed conversion of converting the Cove Point LNG import facility to an export facility as a strong factor in the endorsement.

Brown won the primary with 51 percent of the vote. Mizeur got 22 percent of the ballots.
