Police investigate taxi wreck that killed 2 in Va.

HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) — Virginia State Police are investigating a taxi wreck that killed the driver and a passenger in Rockbridge County.

State police tell media outlets that the taxi caught fire after it ran off the road and hit a tree. Both victims were trapped in the vehicle.

State police say the driver, 26-year-old Joshua Allen Murphy of Harrisonburg, and the passenger, 28-year-old Cyrus Greg Carawan of Lexington, were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither man was wearing a seat belt. Authorities say Murphy was driving a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria taxi cab.

The accident occurred Monday afternoon on Route 39 less than a mile west of Route 803. The crash remains under investigation.
