Alumnus bequests $5M to Lynchburg College

LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — A Lynchburg College alumnus has left a record $5 million bequest to the college.

Media outlets report Walter W. Ridgway Jr. left the college most of his estate upon his death in 2013 at age 91. He is a 1948 graduate of the college.

It marks the largest gift ever to Lynchburg College.

Half of the bequest will be used for scholarships to students attending Lynchburg College from the Virginia Baptist Children’s Home, Glade Spring Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church in Roanoke. The other half will go toward building construction and maintenance.
