Woman weighs lawsuit over Md. doc’s licensing

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) — A woman who was allegedly molested by a western Maryland physician is considering a civil lawsuit stemming from the state’s decision to grant him a medical license despite his 1987 Florida rape conviction.

Cumberland attorney Edward Delaney said Tuesday he has notified Dr. William Dando and Dando’s former employer of his client’s pending or threatened claim. Delaney says he also plans to notify the state.

The Associated Press generally doesn’t identify victims of sexual assaults.

Dando, of Rawlings, made his first court appearance Tuesday on charges of fourth-degree sex offense and perverted practice involving the 41-year-old patient. The 59-year-old family practitioner has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Both Dando and defense attorney Steven Friend declined to comment outside of court.

The judge set a September trial date.
