Microsoft to expand data center in Mecklenburg

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Microsoft Corp. is planning a $346.7 million expansion of its data center in Mecklenburg County.

The expansion will add 90 jobs at the data center in Boydton. It will be the third expansion of the facility since it opened in 2010.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced the expansion Wednesday in a news release. The governor says Microsoft has invested more than $1 billion in the facility.

McAuliffe approved a $1.6 million grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to assist Mecklenburg County with the project.

The Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission approved $1.6 million in Tobacco Region Opportunity Funds for the project.
