Wilbekin follows Manning from Tulsa to Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Wake Forest has signed former Tulsa recruit Mitchell Wilbekin.

Wilbekin originally signed with Tulsa in the fall under coach Danny Manning, who left to take over the Demon Deacons last month. Tulsa released Wilbekin from his letter of intent, freeing him to sign with Wake Forest.

The 6-foot-1, 165-pound guard is the younger brother of former Florida star Scottie Wilbekin, last season’s Southeastern Conference player of the year.

Wilbekin, from Gainesville, Florida, is a three-star prospect, according to Scout.com. He fills the vacancy created when four-star prospect Shelton Mitchell asked for his release from his letter of intent signed under former coach Jeff Bzdelik.

Wilbekin joins guard Rondale Watson of Lewisburg, West Virginia, as incoming freshmen for Manning’s first season.
