Sinise and Mantegna host Memorial Day concert Sunday night

WASHINGTON — The 2014 National Memorial Day Concert will be held Sunday night on the west front lawn of the U.S. Capitol starting at 8 p.m.

The concert is free and open to the public; gates open at 5 p.m.

According to U.S. Capitol Police, there will be four public entrances, all wheelchair accessible, into the concert grounds:

(North Side) First Street, NW at Constitution Avenue, NW, and Third Street, NW at Pennsylvania Avenue, NW.

(South Side) First Street, SW at Independence Avenue, SW, and Third Street, SW at Maryland Avenue, SW.

The one-hour show will be broadcast live on PBS.

“This is the main memorial event for the United States and we have nine million people around that are looking at it,” said Jerry Colbert, executive producer of the broadcast.

This year’s “American Idol” winner, Caleb Johnson, is expected to perform, as will country music star Jennifer Nettles. Organizers say Nettles will perform a musical tribute for returning veterans from Afghanistan, who will join her on stage.

The lineup also includes 2013 winner of “The Voice” Danielle Bradbery, Colin Powell, actors Gerald McRaney, Gary Sinise and Joe Mantegna, Broadway star Megan Hilty and singers Jackie Evancho and Anthony Kearns.
