MINSK, Belarus (AP) — Washington Capitals defenseman Dmitri Orlov will miss the rest of the ice hockey world championships after breaking his arm in Russia’s 6-1 win over the United States on Monday.
Orlov said Tuesday is is set to travel to the United States for treatment.
Orlov’s Russia teammate Andrei Loktionov was previously ruled out after sustaining a shoulder injury in a 5-0 victory over Switzerland on Friday.
Orlov’s absence is a blow for Russia because two other defensemen — Maxim Chudinov and Andrei Zubarev — also have health problems.
Czech Republic defenseman Roman Polak of the St. Louis Blues has also left the worlds with a shoulder injury.
