What not to wear when meeting the parents

WASHINGTON – The holidays can be stressful enough, but dressing to impress your significant other’s family can add even more pressure.

Fashion and shopping app Postelio says there are a few ways to make sure you are wearing the right thing to meet the parents.

“The holidays — like Thanksgiving — are a stressful time for ladies who will be meeting their man’s parents for the first time,” Postelio says in a release. “You must find the perfect look to impress his mom and sisters — one that’s fashionable, chic and classy.”

Here are some of Postelio’s tips to wow your significant other’s family:

  1. Do your research: Ask your significant other about the family’s style as well as what the mom and sister’s fashion sense. Be sure to scan Facebook photos from past holidays to get some ideas.
  2. Pack for every occasion: Be sure to bring options suitable for a fancy dinner, a night out with your significant other and a laid-back combo for a Sunday morning stroll with mom. It may not be the time to experiment with a new fashion-forward ensemble or dress in your skimpiest skirt.
  3. Bring jewelry: Accessories, such as a statement necklace, can glam up any normal outfit.
  4. Check with others: When in doubt, solicit advice from friends. Send your friends a photo of the outfit beforehand to get their thoughts and stamp of approval.
