Suspects at large following Gaithersburg shooting

WASHINGTON – A search for two suspects is still underway Friday in Montgomery County after a fatal shooting in Gaithersburg that caused several nearby schools to hold kids inside as a precaution Thursday afternoon.

A state police helicopter and police dogs have been aiding in the search for two men, but they still haven’t been found.

Police say Michael Kirby Alvarado, 25, was found shot to death outside an apartment building in the 400 block of North Summit Avenue shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Thursday as some Gaithersburg students were returning home.

Police says Kirby lives in the unit block of Benji Court in Gaithersburg.

The search for suspects led Montgomery County officials to hold students inside four nearby schools as a precaution.

Forest Oak Middle School was on lockdown, while Washington Grove Elementary, Gaithersburg Elementary and Gaithersburg Middle School sheltered in place.

Police had few details describing the suspects. One of them was wearing all-black clothing and another was wearing a black and white striped shirt.
