Metro guides celebrants to 50th Anniversary of March

WASHINGTON – Metro has posted advice to people heading to Saturday’s celebration of the 50th Anniversary of The March on Washington.

A “Realize the Dream” rally will be held at the Lincoln Memorial at 8 a.m., to be followed by a march to the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. To get to the celebrations, Metro advises heading to the Farragut North station (on the Red Line) or the Farragut West station (on the Orange and Blue lines) and heading to the National Mall.

To get to the Martin Luther King Memorial, Metro advises taking the Orange or Blue Line to the Smithsonian station, or the Blue Line to Arlington Cemetery and walking across the Memorial Bridge.

Metrorail will open at 7 a.m. and close at 3 a.m. and run on a normal Saturday sechedule.

The only track work scheduled for the weekend is at Franconia-Springfield, where Metro says that trains will leave every 24 minutes, rather than the usual 12; Metro suggests riders use the Huntington or Van Dorn Street stations instead.
