Silver Spring Transit Center repairs hit a roadblock

WASHINGTON – Repairs on the Silver Spring Transit Center are finally under way, but there’s already a kink: a dispute over how the repairs should be done.

Last week, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority sent a letter to Montgomery County’s contract administrator Ernest Lunsford, objecting to the county’s latest approach. WMATA Deputy General Manager Robert Troup says the method of repairing a section of the project – the “pour strips” – isn’t sufficient.

“If resolution cannot be achieved then the County is considered to be on its own,” Troup wrote.

“Under such a scenario, the County must commit to fixing future structural issues and perform requisite maintenance,” Troup later added.

The Montgomery County Council will be getting an update on the project Tuesday during its regularly scheduled session.
