Work to begin on Loudoun Co. stadium this week

WASHINGTON – Construction will start this week on a new baseball-soccer stadium at the intersection of Route 7 and the Loudoun County Parkway.

The stadium, which will be the home of the Loudoun Hounds in the Atlantic League and the Virginia Cavalry in the North American Soccer League, has been talked about for more than a decade.

Bob Farren, the founder and CEO of VIP Sports & Entertainment, which will own both clubs, says they hope to play ball by May of next year.

He says they also plan to host about 17 concerts a year.

“We’ll try to take into account the impact on traffic no matter what the programmming is,” he says.

The stadium has a planned capacity of 10,000, but Farren says they expect average attendence to be in the 5,000-6,000 range for sporting events and closer to 1,500 to 3,500 for concerts and other events.

Loudoun County is expected to make some significant road improvements near the site in the next two years, but Farren says they will start games after the rush hour to mitigate traffic backups. The county will also require that all concerts end by 10 p.m.
