Tree falls on Chevy Chase teen, kills him

WASHINGTON – A 15-year-old Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School student is dead after a tree fell on him as he rode his bicycle during the storms Monday evening.

Police identified the teen as Joshua Davis of Chevy Chase, Md. and said the severe weather may be a factor in his accidental death.

Police said the preliminary investigation indicated Davis was riding a bicycle on one of the side trails off of the main Rock Creek Trail when the tree fell.

His body was found Tuesday afternoon in the woods near Jones Mills Road and Susanna Lane. A search Monday night was unsuccessful.

Davis’ parents reported him missing Monday night after he failed to return from his bike ride.

Grief counselors will be on hand at the high school Wednesday.

The teen’s death remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 240-773-5070.
