Parents arrested after toddler found wandering alone at Va. hotel

WASHINGTON – The parents of a 2-year-old boy found wandering alone in a Fredericksburg hotel have been arrested.

Police were called to the Hospitality House in the 2800 block of Plank Road Thursday morning around 5:30 for reports of a child wandering around in a parking lot.

The boy, dressed only in a diaper, was handed over to hotel security by a guest who found the boy pulling on a door of the hotel trying to get inside.

Hotel employees found the room where the boy was living with his mother, but his parents were nowhere to be found.

The child was turned over the Child Protective Services, while police searched the area.

Officers returned to the hotel later Thursday and found the boy’s father walking near the hotel. He was taken back to the police department where they called the boy’s mother. She agreed to drive out from Spotsylvania.

Before they were tracked down, neither parent had contacted police looking for their child.

After questioning by detectives, James Seth Brown, 31, of no fixed address and Courtney Love Brown, 19, of Spotsylvania were arrested and charged with felony child neglect.

Both are in custody at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.

The child is not injured and is with Child Protective Services.
