Md. teacher charged with sending explicit texts to boy

WASHINGTON – An Anne Arundel County teacher has been charged with soliciting sexual images from a boy while he was a student at her school.

Erin N. Thorne, 28, of Arnold, Md., also faces a charge of displaying obscene matter to a minor. The charges were filed Tuesday and Thorne turned herself in the same day, Anne Arundel County police say.

Thorne was placed on administrative leave from her teaching position at Broadneck High School in November, when the school district first began investigating Thorne’s relationship with a male student, police say.

According to police, Thorne began sending the student what police call sexually explicit text messages during the fall semester of the student’s senior year. The student graduated from Broadneck in 2011.

The two began speaking on the phone regularly and they continued to share sexually explicit text messages and images at Thorne’s request before the boy turned 18, police say.

After the boy turned 18, they engaged in sexual activity, according to police.

Police say they consulted with the Anne Arundel County state’s attorney’s office before filing a warrant for Thorne’s arrest.
