Md. man convicted in 2011 carjackings, kidnappings

WASHINGTON – A 51-year-old Landover, Md. man has been found guilty of carjacking and kidnapping three men during a 2011 crime spree.

Henry L. Sanders faces 85 years in prison for the post-Thanksgiving Day rampage, which included abducting victims from a Wheaton shopping center and forcing them to withdraw money from an ATM.

Two of the victims were in their 70s, and one was in his 60s, The Washington Post reports.

“People are entitled to feel safe shopping or traveling around the county,” John J. McCarthy, state’s attorney for Montgomery County, said in a statement. “Mr. Sanders stole not only money and ATM cards from these citizens, but also took away their piece of mind.”

Sanders will be sentenced May 16.
