WASHINGTON – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Loudoun County, Northern Fauquier County and Frederick County, Md. and points west until 10 a.m. Saturday.

Advisory areas are going to see minor accumulations of ice and sleet, less than 1/10 inch,” says ABC 7 meteorologist Lauryn Ricketts.

In D.C. and areas not affected by the advisory, residents are going to see some minor accumulation. It will be enough to create slick conditions on some non-treated roads, but it shouldn’t be too much of a problem for the drive home.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is urging drivers to take caution on the roads during their commute home Friday. VDOT had more than 600 trucks treating Virginia roads by noon Friday, focusing on areas west of the Beltway and in Loudoun County where more ice is expected.

Crews are also treating roads in Arlington, Fairfax and Prince William counties, according to a VDOT news release.

As for Saturday, the areas under the winter weather advisory will hold on to some cold air which could make for a wintry mix in the morning, Ricketts says. In the listening area, we could change over to rain on Saturday.
