2 Va. men charged with car vandalism spree

WASHINGTON – Two men have been arrested in connection with shooting out dozens of car windows in Fairfax County.

Herbert Reyes-Cartagena, 18, and Alexander Chase, 19, both of Arlington, face charges of destruction of property, shooting a missile into an occupied dwelling and an occupied vehicle.

Fairfax County police say the pair left behind more than 30 victims and a wake of destruction in the Newington Forest and Terra Grande neighborhoods last November. A pellet or BB gun was used to shoot out car windows in the middle of the night. Most of the cars were unoccupied.

Police say the pair also fired an air rifle into a home in the 8000 block of Parklane Court. They are also accused of shooting into an occupied vehicle in the 8600 block of Pohick Road, both before midnight on Nov. 28.

Police say tips from the public helped identify the shooters.
