Playoff football, Wizards and college basketball on WFED this week

WASHINGTON – A busy week of live play-by-play on Federal News Radio highlighted by the start of conference play in college basketball and the NFL Playoffs.

Monday, Jan. 7, 7:00 p.m., Wizards vs. Oklahoma City (WFED 1500 AM):

The Wizards (4-28) seek their first win of 2013 as they take on the defending Western Conference champion Oklahoma City Thunder (26-7) Monday at Verizon Center. Washington has lost five straight and 13-of-14 overall while OKC has won two straight and five of its last six games.

Washington, D.C. native Kevin Durant has led OKC to the NBA’s best record and is third in league scoring with an average of 28.2 points-per-game.

Pregame coverage for the Wizards-Thunder match up begins at 6:45 with play-by-play voice Dave Johnson and color analyst Glenn Consor.

Wednesday, Jan. 9, 7:00 p.m., George Washington University vs. St. Bonaventure (WFED 1500 AM):

The George Washington University Colonials (6-7) begin conference play Wednesday night as they open Atlantic-10 play against St. Bonaventure (7-6) from the Charles E. Smith Center. The Colonials went 5-11 in A-10 play last year and are seeking just their second winning season in conference play since 2006-07.

G.W. fell at St. Bonaventure 66-56 in last year’s A-10 opener in Western New York. Pregame coverage for Wednesday’s matchup begins at 6:45 with play-by-play voice Byron Kerr. The game will also be available online at wfed.com.

Saturday, Jan. 12, 2:00 p.m., American University @ Colgate (1050 AM & wfed.com):

The AU Eagles (5-10) begin conference play Saturday afternoon as they open Patriot League play at Colgate (6-10) on Saturday. AU won both meetings against Colgate last season and the Eagles have won four straight against the Raiders overall.

Pregame coverage begins at 1:50 with play-by-play voice Dan Laing and color analyst Jeremy Huber. The game will also be streamed online at www.wfed.com.

Saturday, Jan. 12, 4:00 p.m., George Washington University @ Xavier (WFED 1500AM):

The Colonials hit the road Saturday for the first time in conference play as they visit the Xavier Musketeers (7-6, through Monday) at the Cintas Center.

GW fell to Xavier 59-58 last Feb. 1 and the Colonials have lost seven straight overall against the Musketeers. Pregame coverage Saturday begins at 3:45 p.m. with play-by-play voice Byron Kerr. The game will also be available online at www.wfed.com.

Saturday, Jan. 12, 4:30 p.m., NFL Playoffs: Ravens @ Denver (1050 AM):

The NFL Playoffs continue on WFED as the Baltimore Ravens visit the Denver Broncos in the AFC Divisional round Saturday afternoon. With a win in Denver, the Ravens would advance to their second straight AFC Championship game.

The Broncos have won 11-straight including a 34-17 win in Baltimore in Week 15. Pregame coverage Saturday begins at 3:55 p.m. with play-by-play voice Gerry Sandusky, color analyst Qadry Ismail and sideline reporter Stan White.

Saturday, Jan. 12, 7:00 p.m., Wizards vs. Atlanta (WFED 1500 AM):

The Wizards seek their first win against the Hawks (20-12, through Monday) this season when the teams meet for the fourth time in less than two months.

Washington has struggled against Atlanta in recent years having lost 18 of their last 19 matchups. The Wizards are 0-3 against the Hawks this season including two defeats in overtime.

Extended pregame coverage begins at 6:00 with play-by-play voice Dave Johnson and color analyst Glenn Consor.
