WASHINGTON – Homer Simpson would approve.
A new restaurant in D.C. will introduce a sandwich that combines doughnuts, fried chicken and, of course, bacon.
Shooting for a February grand opening, GBD (golden, brown and delicious) will be located on Connecticut Avenue near Dupont Circle and will specialize in chicken and doughnuts.
The sandwich is named for singer Luther Vandross, who had a thing for fried chicken sandwiches with doughnuts as bread.
“(The) first bite through is that kind of sweet and ‘pillowyness’ of the doughnut,” says GBD spokesperson Megan Bailey.
“And then immediately you get to the crisp of not only bacon but then you get to the chicken right after that.”
Bailey says the sandwich consists of a doughnut sliced in half with the bacon and “beautifully crispy fried chicken in the middle.” Then there’s a maple syrup sauce spread all over with a “little dust of pecans.”
