Power restored for NOVEC customers after massive outage

WASHINGTON – Nearly 15,000 NOVEC customers lost power Monday night when a transmission line went out, but by midnight all were restored.

According to NOVEC, the transmission line that went out is used to get power from Dominion and feeds eight different substations for NOVEC.

Power was restored to the majority by 11:30 p.m. when seven of the eight substations were back online and the transmission line was fixed. The eighth substation serves about 3,800 customers in Stafford County. Power returned for those customers just before midnight.

Those eight substations that went offline serve:

  • Dale City
  • Woodbridge
  • Stafford County
  • Areas along Route 234

Several customers who called WTOP to inquire about the outage said they hadn’t lost power in years and that NOVEC is typically dependable.
