Live Conversation: George Wallace, Redskins beat reporter

Megan Cloherty,

WASHINGTON – Sunday was a big day for the Redskins. The team’s 80th anniversary arrived with all the hype the franchise was hoping for. Redskins greats looked on as the throw-back clad team took the field in what was dubbed a ‘must win.’ But the homecoming team fell short, far short.

Facing the 1-5 Panthers, a win did not seem too lofty a goal for the Skins. But consistent receiving errors, a few ugly calls and an under-developed offensive line sealed their fate, despite RGIII’s valiant effort to carry the team to the end zone.

After the game, Mike Shanahan acknowledged changes need to be made.

“You lose a game like that, now you’re playing to see who obviously is going to be on your football team for years to come,” Shanahan said. “I’ll get a chance to evaluate players and see where we’re at. Obviously, we’re not out of it statistically, but now we find out what type of character we’ve got and how guys keep on fighting through the rest of the season.”
