Crime Report: Oct. 22 to Oct. 30

Police are looking for a man with a yellow reflective vest and hard hat posing as a utility worker who they scammed an elderly Bethesda resident:

A residential burglary occurred in the 5200 block of Alta Vista Road, Bethesda on Friday, 10/26 at approximately 9:30 a.m.  A suspect posing as a water utility worker entered the elderly victim’s house under the guise of checking pipes in the basement.  The elderly victim escorted the suspect into the basement, but shortly thereafter heard a noise coming from upstairs.  The victim later discovered property missing.

Suspect: W/M (looked “Mediterranean”), 25-35, 5’6”-5’8”, 150-175 lbs, wore a yellow reflective vest and a hard hat

A residential burglary occurred in the 5400 block of Grove Ridge Way, North Bethesda on Tuesday, 10/23 between 9:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.  Forced entry; property taken.

An aggravated assault occurred in the 7000 block of Old Stage Road, Rockville on Tuesday, 10/23 at 4:45 p.m.  During a dispute, the known suspect threatened the victim with a weapon.

Two thefts from vehicles occurred overnight from Tuesday, 10/23 to Wednesday, 10/24 in the 11300 and 11400 blocks of Rokeby Avenue, Garrett Park.  Forced entry; wallets were taken.

An attempted commercial burglary occurred at DryClean Expo, 11130 Rockville Pike, Rockville on Wednesday, 10/24 at approximately 2:00 a.m.  Attempted forced entry; nothing taken.

A residential burglary occurred in the 5300 block of King Charles Way, North Bethesda on Wednesday, 10/24 between 8:00 a.m. and noon.  Unforced entry; property taken.

Seven thefts from vehicles occurred in this Bethesda/Chevy Chase beat this week; all but one involved vehicles that had been left unsecured.  Laptops, iPods, and cash were among the primary items targeted.  Four of the events occurred during the same overnight period from Wednesday, 10/24 to Thursday, 10/25 along Cumberland Avenue.  Other affected streets included: the 4600 block of Bayard Blvd, 5200 block of Baltimore Avenue and the intersection of North Park Avenue and Willard Avenue.

An aggravated assault occurred at Saratoga Avenue and Merivale Road, Bethesda on Friday, 10/26 at approximately 11:10 a.m.  The suspects attempted to assault the victim.

Suspect: H/M, 30-35, 5’9”-5’10”, 190-200 lbs, wearing a white hard hat; H/M, 57-60, heavyset, gray hair, mustache; passenger in vehicle

A residential burglary occurred in the 6100 block of Clearwood Road, Bethesda on Saturday, 10/27 between 3:20 and 3:50 p.m.  Unknown means of entry; property taken.

A commercial burglary occurred at 5530 Wisconsin Avenue, Chevy Chase overnight from Sunday, 10/28 to Monday, 10/29.  Forced entry; property taken.

An attempted commercial burglary occurred at Lightning Wear, 10580 Metropolitan Avenue, Kensington on Monday, 10/29 at approximately 6:45 a.m.  Attempted forced entry; nothing taken.

A carjacking/armed robbery occurred in the 11200 block of Rockville Pike, Rockville on Wednesday, 10/31 at approximately 2:10 p.m.  The suspect threatened the victims with a weapon, obtained property, then left in the victim’s vehicle.

Suspect: B/M, 20-30, 5’9”-5’11”, 170-190 lbs., short black hair, wearing a hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses
