WASHINGTON – A Virginia man accused of soliciting a young girl for sex is being held on $300,000 bond in Montgomery County.
Nathan Portnoy, 23, of Falls Church has been charged with soliciting and arranging to have sex with a 12-year-old Maryland girl. In addition to solicitation of a minor, Portnoy is charged with first-degree assault, first-degree assault and kidnapping of a child under 16.
Court documents say the incident happened nearly two weeks ago when Portnoy picked the girl up in Bethesda after they’d talked on the phone. After driving a short distance, she asked to be let out of the car. The girl’s sister and a friend spotted the victim leaving Portnoy’s Jeep and followed.
At that point, Portnoy reportedly waved a gun at their car, the documents say.
According to 9 News Now, Portnoy’s lawyer and supporters say the girl posed as an adult online and the gun he allegedly waved was legal.
He is being charged with assault, kidnapping and soliciting a minor for sex.
The charges against Portnoy come two months after Fairfax County recognized him as a citizen hero for trying to rescue an electrocution victim during the June derecho storm.
