Family and friends remember teen killed in train derailment

WASHINGTON – Family and friends are gathering Saturday to remember Rose Mayr at Bethany United Methodist Church in Ellicott City, Md.

Mayr, 19, was killed this week when a CSX train derailed, burying her and Elizabeth Nass in coal.

Nass and Mayr, both graduates of Mount Hebron High School, were sitting on a railroad bridge, apparently enjoying one of their last summer nights before heading back to college.

Mayr was a nursing student at the University of Delaware, while Nass was an undergraduate student at James Madison University.

Many are attending a memorial service for the second time in two days. Nass’s memorial mass Friday drew hundreds of emotional friends and family.
