WTOP’s guide to Redskins training camp

ASHBURN, Va. – Break out your burgundy and gold. Fans are ready to see Robert Griffin III and the rest of the Redskins in action as the team opens training camp Thursday.

Thirteen practices will be open to the public. This year, practices will be in the afternoon, rather than the morning.

Afternoon practices begin at 2:55 p.m., with gates opening at 1 p.m. The parking lots open at noon and close at 6 p.m.

Parking and admission are free.

Practices last between 90 minutes and two hours, according to the team’s website.

Fans are asked to print out, complete and bring a Training Camp Invitation form, which will be collected at the gate. The team says the form helps predict attendance at summer practice, but does ask for contact information and whether you hold season tickets.

Fans are allowed to bring folding chairs, food and drinks in a cooler. No alcohol is allowed.

The team says fans may bring cameras for still photography, but recording video is not allowed.

As for autographs, there’s no guarantee players will be around to sign any, but often they do after practice.

Fan Appreciation Day is Saturday, Aug. 4, with practice starting at noon. On that day, because of the crowds, the parking lots will open an hour and a half earlier than last year. On Aug. 4, the parking lots will open at 8 a.m. and the gates open at 9 a.m.
