WASHINGTON – A pedestrian was killed when a car struck him at an intersection in Arlington Sunday night that was partially darkened due to power outages across the area.
A Honda was heading Westbound on Columbia Pike when it hit the man at the intersection of Four Mile Run Drive. The man was transported to a trauma center in Fairfax County where he was pronounced dead.
Columbia Pike was closed between Buchanan Street and Dinwiddie Street for a short time following the accident.
The Honda’s driver remained on the scene. There’s no word yet on whether the driver will be charged.
Violent storms in the Northern Virginia, Maryland and D.C. Friday night caused extensive damage and initially left more than one million people without power.
Many traffic lights were left without power, some at major intersections. Driver’s are cautioned to be careful approaching darkened intersections and treat them as four-way stops.
