WASHINGTON – The terms “frugal” and “couponing” aren’t usually the first that come to mind when New York City is mentioned – but that could be changing.
New York City made a recent list of the top ten most frugal cities along with some other unexpected names, such as Miami and Las Vegas.
Saveeveryday.com, a leading mobile couponing website, compiled the list to see which cities had the best couponers, according to a news release.
Houston tops the list, with Chicago, San Antonio and Columbus following.
“Couponing is experiencing a resurgence in popularity, and it’s easier than ever,” says Nissa Rhodes, director of savings at SaveEveryday.
She says part of what is driving the trend is a shift in how coupons are used. Today, shoppers use their smartphones to find nearby deals and folks are reluctant to buy anything full price.
