Man has unusual hero in mountain lion attack

WASHINGTON – A mother saved the life of a California man this week when he was attacked by a mountain lion.

But what makes this tale of survival truly amazing is that this mother was a bear. Literally.

Robert Biggs, 69, says he was walking in the woods near Paradise, Calif. just as he had for decades when he spotted the mother bear and her cub. He watched them for awhile before resuming his hike.

It was then, Biggs says, that a mountain lion jumped on his back. Biggs fought briefly with the cougar and that’s when it happened: The mother bear came up and knocked the mountain lion away.

Biggs escaped unharmed, except for a few scratches and a bruise on his arm. He says even his wife is skeptical of his story, but he insists it’s true. Wildlife experts say mountain lion attacks on humans are extremely rare.

Watch the video below from CBS Sacramento to hear what Biggs has to say about the incident.
