WASHINGTON – A new iPhone app created by doctors helps those in need of caffeine optimize their intake to get the most energy — without losing any sleep.
The app, called Caffeine Zone 2 and available as Caffeine Zone 2 Lite, tells users the best time to take a coffee break to maintain the optimal amount of caffeine in their blood, as well as when to cease caffeine intake so that it won’t interrupt sleeping patterns.
Two doctors at Penn State University found the optimum amount of caffeine for energy is between 200 and 400 milligrams, and that below 100 milligrams is ideal for sleeping.
Users input the amount and type of caffeine they take and the app generates a chart of their caffeine level for the next 24 hours.
The app takes into account the rate at which caffeine is absorbed and metabolized in the human body, and then takes into account how long it lasts in your system.
It also lists a user’s consumption history and lets a user clear all data to start a day.
The Caffeine Zone 2 app was created by Drs. Frank Ritter and Kuo-Chuan Yeh.
