Study: We are watching less live television

WASHINGTON – More people are watching recorded TV shows or shows delivered online than they are watching it live, according to a new study from the DVR company TiVo.

The study of TiVo users says that only a third of all television watching happens live, as in via cable or an over-the-air broadcast.

That means most people are watching their content from a recording on their DVR or from an online service like Netflix or Hulu.

In fact, the study shows that only 27 percent of people who use those online services watch live television.

Time Magazine’s Techland blog says that it looks like television viewing as we know it may be dying. It also notes that TiVo is “an interested party” when it comes to recorded programming.
