WASHINGTON – If you’re looking to make good on your new year’s resolution to keep the winter pounds off, or you want to get in shape for the summer bikini season, a new gym opening up in D.C promises to get you in gear.

Crossfit style.

Tucked inside Second Wind Training in Northwest D.C., owner Steve Dolge is offering his own brand of Crossfit training.

“Crossfit workouts are high intensity, constantly varied, functional movement,” Dolge says. “It’s meant to really emphasize movements that you would mimic in real life.”

Workouts at the facility will emphasize the ten principles of fitness such as flexibility, power, speed, agility and balance.

Dolge, who is a former WTOP.com managing editor, stresses that workouts are not one-size-fits-all. Routines can be molded to the fitness levels of all athletes, from the elite to the elderly.

“Whether it’s an Olympic bar with 400 pounds on it, or it’s a bag of kitty litter, you still need to be able to bend down and pick up correctly,” says Dolge, who has been a triathlete since 1997 and completed the 2007 Ironman in Lake Placid.

Memberships are monthly, and they come with a hefty price tag. A 2-day a week membership is $145 a month. The unlimited access membership is $175 a month.

Dolge says the personal touch is one reason why he’s more expensive than big-named sports clubs.

“Here you’re paying for class instruction. You’re paying for my services to help you lift. You’re not coming in here, and doing it by yourself,” he says.
