Apps map out where radar detectors are

WASHINGTON – The next wave of smartphone technology shares where police have radar detectors set up, mapping out the locations for other drivers.

Detectors made by Cobra Electronics are shared using the app iRadar Community, according to The New York Times.

Escort radar also shares the information.

A person’s phone warns of an approaching laser or radar gun.

The apps claim to sift through alerts to weed out false alarms, and they do come with costs. Some have yearly subscription fees.

They work on both Android phones and iPhones.
