Veterans Day events, Metro track work, FotoWeek DC wrapping up, ICC ramp closure

Weekend Wakeup Call – Friday, Nov. 11 to Monday, Nov. 14

WASHINGTON – This weekend is all about Veterans Day events and Metro work. The relative calm of the federal holiday will be followed by another crazy Metro weekend, complete with full closures of 4 stations. FotoWeek DC is wrapping up, and the ICC ramp to Norbeck Road will be permanently closed on Friday.

FotoWeek DC

FotoWeek DC will be coming to a close this weekend with a couple of great events. Outernational DC will take place at FotoWeek Central (the old Borders at 1800 L Street NW) this Friday, and will feature documentary imagery along with music by Eric Hilton of Thievery Corporation. On Saturday, the Portfolio Review event will allow emerging photographers to have their work reviewed by industry professionals.

Veterans Day

There will be a plethora of Veterans Day events for Friday, including a parade in Manassas, ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the World War II Memorial, and the Navy Memorial. The Mount Vernon Estate will have a wreath-laying ceremony followed by performances by the Harmony Heritage Singers (an all-veteran barbershop chorus) and the U.S. Air Force Strings.

Public transportation for Veterans Day

On Veterans Day, there are some changes to public transportation schedules. Metrorail is on a Saturday schedule. Virginia Railway Express and MARC are not in service. Click here for the list.

Metro track work continues

ICC access to Norbeck Rd to be removed

The Maryland State Highway Administration will close access from the ICC/Md. 200 to Norbeck Rd. The temporary ramp from eastbound Md. 200 and the traffic signal will be removed to allow for construction of permanent sidewalk and a new bike path along Norbeck Road and over the newly constructed Norbeck Road bridge.

Friday morning, traffic will be shifted to the permanent lane configuration.  Eastbound and westbound Norbeck Road will revert back to a single-lane operation between Baileys Lane and Wintergate Drive. All traffic on the ICC will exit at Georgia Avenue/Md. 97. Westbound Norbeck Road traffic will continue to be directed to use the Georgia Avenue/ICC interchange for access to the westbound ICC.

George Washington Parkway closure

From 6 a.m. Saturday through 10 p.m. Sunday, rock stabilization work will close both northbound lanes of the George Washington Parkway between the Spout Run Parkway and Route 123/Chain Bridge Road. Northbound traffic will be diverted onto Spout Run Parkway.

Drivers are encouraged to use Route 50 west or the exit at Spout Run Parkway to Route 29 south and follow I-66 west to access I-495.

Beltway and Telegraph Road Closures

The Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project will affect traffic patterns this weekend. Here’s the rundown:

9 p.m. Friday through 10 p.m. Sunday:

  • Inner Loop (I-95/495 South) local lanes will narrow to one lane (alternating lanes) between Route 1 and Telegraph Road

  • On-ramps from both directions of Route 1 to the Inner Loop local lanes will also be closed
  • If you’re headed to Duke Street or the Eisenhower Valley, take Route 1

Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.:
