Fisherman pulled around by grouper gets bumped off kayak by shark (Video)

WASHINGTON — A Coast Guard captain for fishing charters tried to catch a goliath grouper, but ended up having his kayak overturned by a bull shark near Stuart, Florida.

Ben Chancey says after the grouper ate his bait last Thursday, it started pulling him sideways and pulled his rod from his hand.

“Groupers normally swim below the sharks. But this grouper came up through the bull sharks and ate the bait. It was really aggressive,” Chancey told ABC News.

The grouper spit the bait out, and the bull shark ate it, Chancey says.

Then the shark started dragging his kayak around. Roughly 20 minutes later, the shark swam under the kayak and turned it over.

Chancey quickly swam to a support boat.

But the host of the fishing show “Chew On This” didn’t give up. The shark was still on his line.

He jumped back in the kayak and finished landing the shark.

“He got a good punch. I had to get up off the mat and get another shot. I couldn’t let him win that easy,” Chancey told ABC News.
