Local rapper incarcerated after police chase

WASHINGTON — A local rapper who calls himself “Honest Abe” has been sentenced to prison time for doing some dishonest things.

Abraham Kamara of Silver Spring, who has videos on YouTube under the names “Honest Abe” and “Honest Business”, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute and fleeing and eluding police.

Police also say he has gang affiliations.

Kamara was driving a box truck last April when an officer tried to pull him over because the truck’s registration had been suspended. Instead, he led the officer a high speed chase through Takoma Park.

“He was driving at extraordinarily high speeds. Sixty-one miles per hour in a 25 zone,” Ramon Korionoff, with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, tells WTOP.

Kamara crashed the truck into a police officer’s cruiser and took off on foot before being taken into custody.

“As he bailed out, police found 74 grams of marijuana and a digital scale,” said Korionoff.

And just a few days after he struck a plea deal in the case, “Honest Abe” was in trouble again.

“Awaiting sentencing, Mr. Kamara decided that he needed some more studio time, so he dealt some more drugs and he was caught with multiple packages of drugs and another scale. So he had a second count of possession with intent to distribute, which he pled to today. He’s Honest Abe. His moniker doesn’t seem to fit his actions.”
