Delta puts DC-to-LA flights on its free meal list

WASHINGTON— Delta Air Lines is introducing free meals on a dozen of its longest domestic flights, including its Reagan National to Los Angeles flights.

The complimentary main cabin meal service starts March 1 between New York’s JFK Airport and San Francisco and between JFK and Los Angeles. The DCA to LAX meal service starts April 24.

Free “nose to tail” meals will also be served on Delta flights between Boston and San Francisco, Boston and L.A., Boston and Seattle, JFK and Portland, JFK and San Francisco, JFK and Seattle, Seattle and Fort Lauderdale, Seattle and Orlando, and Seattle and Raleigh-Durham.

The free meals include a breakfast sandwich, turkey sandwich or veggie wrap, and fruit and cheese plate. Delta says it will change the menus regularly.

The roll-out in 12 markets follows a complimentary meal test Delta conducted late last year.

“We are all about making our Main Cabin experience the best it can be for our customers and offering free, high quality meals is a big part of that experience,” said Allison Ausband, Delta’s senior vice president for in-flight service. “When we tested this concept, our customers loved it and appreciated it so we are implementing in our most strategic markets.”

For passengers paying more for its Delta Comfort+ main cabin seats, Delta will also provide a free pre-arrival snack basket on all 12 routes and free beer, wine or spirits.

All main cabin customers on Delta’s long-haul international flights already get complimentary alcoholic drinks.
