2 Md. suspects charged in teen human trafficking case; more victims possible

WASHINGTON — Police arrested and charged two Fort Washington, Maryland, residents in a human trafficking case involving a 15-year-old girl.

Dierra Victoria Lee Thomas, 19, and Atuan Saran Rogers, 34, were arrested last month — Thomas was arrested July 11 and charged with a count of conspiracy to commit human trafficking and prostitution offenses; Rogers was arrested July 29 and charged with human trafficking and prostitution offenses.

Montgomery County police learned about the case in March  when a 15-year-old girl told detectives that last October she met person named “Ire” — identified as Thomas — at a Silver Spring hotel. He asked her whether she “wanted to work.” Thomas then introduced the girl to “Rose Moe” — identified as Rogers — who told the girl that she could earn money by having sex with men.

Rogers advertised the girl’s services in an “escort section” of a classified advertising website, the victim told detectives. She also said Rogers did not allow her access to a phone or money. He hit her after she told him she did not want to work for him anymore, she recounted.

Both were arrested by Prince George’s County police through warrants issued by Montgomery County police. Rogers is being held in Montgomery County on an $80,000 bond; Thomas was released on a $5,000 bond.

Investigators believe Thomas and Rogers could have had more teen victims working for them. Anyone with information about human trafficking activities involving these suspects should call the Vice and Intelligence Section at 240-773-5959.
