Loudoun County investigating fatal crash

STERLING, Va. (AP) — The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a car wreck that claimed the life of a man who tried to flee the scene of a traffic stop in Sterling.

An official says the wreck occurred at roughly 12:40 a.m. on Sunday when a deputy on patrol saw a man traveling on E. Beech Road without lights on. They say when the deputy tried to stop the man he sped away. The deputy began chasing the man in his patrol car but lost sight of him until the officer came upon the wreck. They say the man crashed into a parked car and was pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s passenger was taken to a hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Officials have not yet released the driver’s identity.
