Heading to the Memorial Day Parade? What you need to know

WASHINGTON — The Memorial Day Parade along Constitution Avenue kicks off at 2 p.m. Monday, and we have tips on what you need to know before you go.

 

The route:

Constitution Avenue Northwest, heading west from 7th to 17th Street. Admission is free and there are no security checkpoints.

 

Best viewing:

The National Archives steps between 7th and 9th Streets NW. Arrive early to secure a spot.

 

Metro adjustments:

Maintenance will cause long waits between trains, Metro says.

Every 20 minutes: Red Line, Shady Grove to Glenmont

Every 18 minutes: Blue Line

Every 18 minutes: The Yellow Line, which operates only between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Square

Every 15 minutes: Orange and Silver Lines

 

Parking:

There are a number of pay to park garages near the National Mall. Some offer online discounts for reserved parking.

 

Road Closures:

  • At the staging area, 7th Street NW between Constitution Avenue & Independence Avenue SW
  • Along the route, Constitution Avenue between 7th Street & 19th Street NW
  • At the dispersal area, Virginia Avenue between Constitution Avenue & 22nd Street, NW

The parade is scheduled to last two hours. Blockades along the parade route are expected to reopen to traffic by 4 p.m.
