Areas report more than a half foot of snow

WASHINGTON — More than a half foot of snow fell in parts of the WTOP listening area since Monday night, with St. Mary’s County seeing the highest totals in the region.

Parts of the Maryland county reported as much as 8 inches in places, according to unofficial totals from the National Weather Service.

Calvert County, Maryland, and Fredericksburg, Virginia, each reported 7 inches.

In Virginia, Stafford County got 6 inches, while parts of Alexandria had nearly 6 inches.

Snow totals varied in Fairfax County from 6 inches in Hybla Valley to just 3 inches in Oakton. In Montgomery County, White Oak took the brunt of the storm seeing 5 inches.

At the National Zoo, 5.3 inches of snow was reported. But Reagan National reported 4. 7 inches.

Meanwhile, areas to the north and west that typically take the brunt of most winter storms saw the smallest snow totals. Dulles International Airport reported just 3.9 inches and Federick, Maryland, received a little more than 3 inches.
