Snorting cocoa: A new, legal pick-me-up? (Video)

WASHINGTON — It’s got all the trappings of illicit, rock ‘n’ roll decadence, as well as a bit of an energy boost, but without that whole illegality problem: Putting cocoa powder up your nose.

The New York Post’s Hailey Eber recently wrote about her own experience with snorting chocolate, and found it worked to give her a bit of a lift — “putting things up your nose typically does, or so I’ve heard” — as well as occasional coughing and the shakes. (It goes perhaps without saying that you should be even more meticulous than a snorter of illicit substances about wiping your nose afterward.)

Perhaps not surprisingly, there’s a device for the experience: the Chocolate Shooter, which — perhaps even less surprisingly — was created for a birthday party for Ron Wood and Charlie Watts of The Rolling Stones. You can get the contraption, with two tiny spoons on hinges that shoot the fine cocoa powder (in raspberry and ginger flavors) up your schnozzle, for 45 euros (about $48) at chocolateshooter.com, Eber writes.

It must be said, however, that Eber’s final determination is that snorting the cocoa won’t replace eating chocolate, or grabbing some coffee, in her daily routine.
